Crimson Moon Story and Setting: Gildenarch and the Nephilim
Crimson Moon's setting explained: the fallen city of Gildenarch, the Order of the Crimson Moon, Nephilim warriors, and the Savage Dead Gods. Spoiler-free.
Crimson Moon is set in Gildenarch, a fallen holy city overrun by demons, undead, vampires, and Hellgrowth abominations. You fight for the Order of the Crimson Moon — humanity's last hope — as a Nephilim, a human-angel hybrid forged to defend the world from Hell.
The Fallen City of Gildenarch
Gildenarch was once a holy jewel, and now it is the war zone. Official material describes the city as overrun by demons, undead, vampires, and Hellgrowth monstrosities since its fall. Your hunts take you through the city's Wards — the mission zones where each run plays out. The exact number of Wards and how they unlock has not been laid out in official material, so treat specifics as to be confirmed until the map is fully documented.
The Order of the Crimson Moon
Humanity's last line of defense is the Order of the Crimson Moon, and official copy is blunt about your role in it: "its most feared weapon is you." As a Nephilim — a human-angel hybrid — you were forged to defend the world from Hell, wielding supernatural powers alongside melee weapons. The tone is gothic and crusader-flavored: bloody, stylish executions against Hell's legions rather than polite heroics.
The Savage Dead Gods
The big targets are the Dead Gods. Official material puts them at the top of the threat board — you can "face the Savage Dead Gods solo or with a friend in this gothic action-packed RPG." How many Dead Gods there are and in what order you confront them is to be confirmed; the launch build is days old and full boss documentation has not been published yet.
Where the Co-op Fits
The story is built to work solo or in 2-player online co-op. You and a partner drop into Gildenarch together, clear zones, stack boons, and hunt the same horrors. For how the multiplayer layer works mechanically, see our crossplay and co-op guide.
What We Still Don't Know
This is a days-old release, so expect the deep story beats — named characters beyond your Nephilim, the Order's internal politics, and the Dead Gods' identities — to be documented as players finish the game. We will update this page as verified details land, and we would rather mark something "to be confirmed" than invent lore.
